More than 1,000 die in northern India floods; rescue operations slow

Aid workers today pulled bloated bodies from the turbulent waters submerging a wide swath of northern India, where nearly two dozen villages have disappeared from view.

"The destruction is so overwhelming that rescue efforts seem futile," said Kripa Shankar Pandey, a reporter who lives in Gorakhpur at the center of the disaster zone.

(Luke 21:11) There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

Nun to "become" Priest

From the Whitby Gazette 28th August 1998.

A Whitby nun will defy the Pope next month when she is ordained as the world's first-ever Roman Catholic woman priest.

Sister Frances Meigh (67) who lives at a hermitage attached to St. Patrick's RC Church on Church Street is to be ordained at a service in Omeath, County Louth in the Republic of Ireland.

A rebel bishop, Pat Buckley, who has already infuriated the Vatican by conducting marriage services for divorcees, will lead the service on 14th September.

Once the ordination has been carried out, Sister Frances will say mass in the church at Omeath.

President Confronts Global Unrest

"....Asia chokes on a financial crisis from Indonesia to Japan that is reflected in a 1,000-point Dow Jones swoon. Saddam Hussein slams the door on United Nations weapons inspectors. North Korea may be reneging on a 1994 agreement to give up attempts to build nuclear weapons in exchange for fuel oil and Western-built nuclear reactors.

Bombs rip a frail peace in Ireland. Fighting in Kosovo threatens to draw Albania into that war while winter's approach carries the prospect of a humanitarian disaster for a quarter of a million refugees. America braces for terrorist retaliation following its missile attacks in Afghanistan and Sudan.

And Russia, where Clinton hopes his visit this week will help restore his presidential credentials, faces economic crisis. Russia ultimately could right itself, but it also could wind up in collapse and chaos, or under nationalistic or military rule."

(Mat 24:21) For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now--and never to be equaled again.

The Philokalia excerpt: St. Mark the Ascetic "On the Spiritual Law: Two Hundred Texts"

122.  If you praise your neighbour to one man and criticize him to another, you are the slave of self-esteem and jealousy.  Through praise you try to hide your jealousy, through criticism to appear better than your neighbor.

Board rejects religion measure

The Miami-Dade School Board snubbed a request Wednesday to distribute an advisory promoting students' religious rights, criticizing the 1 1/2-page statement written by board member Renier Diaz de la Portilla as being ``distorted'' and ``biased.''

The brief advisory concentrated on a student's right to initiate prayer, form Bible clubs and distribute religious literature. It warned teachers and administrators from discouraging students' religious activities.

After rejecting the notice, the board opted instead to send all schools a copy of the federal government's guidelines on religious expression in public schools and a joint interpretation of the law written several years ago by 35 religious and civil rights organizations.

"For some time I have prophesied that America is about to be stricken with an economic holocaust. Now, lately, I've become convinced that one of two scenarios could take place:

Unfolding Prophetic Fulfillment

September 22, 1997

The Prophetic Word through Thomas S. Gibson

(Prophecy, #117); The Three Signs:

This word of the Lord is for all those who have desired to know the times and seasons. There will come a three fold sign of the end times. This will be, no matter what else may happen. I the Lord have spoken.

1. The Fall of an American President

2. The collapse of the American economy

3. The infiltration onto American soil of enemy bands of soldiers to begin World War III

This word shall occur as spoken, says the Lord. Look not to the earth for your ways, but look to Me, says the Lord of all things.

Editor's note:  I can personally attest that the above prophecy was given on the date noted, well before the onset of President Clinton's political problems and in the midst of a surging stock market.  I must sheepishly admit that I thought at the time that it was virtually impossible that the prophecy would be fulfilled.

Most recent prophetic word from Thomas Gibson:

August 12, 1998

(Prophecy, #173); Crash of US:

There is time for Christians to get their lives in order for the coming crash of the United States. Do not weep for this nation, for it is sick. It is filled with wickedness, and I am laying upon it a just and deserved wrath. Do not weep for it, but look to yourselves. that you are in touch with the Spirit of God, that you are serving the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords.

Do not turn aside, do not pretend that you are serving a God when your heart is on the things of this earth. Serve Me, says the Lord. for there is coming a time when judgment on this earth shall be so great that only those who walk with Me can have any chance of survival. And they will walk in power and strength, and I will be with them, and I will strengthen them, and I will protect them.

But those who pretend, those who play the games, seek the things of the world, seek to build up big names for themselves; they shall fall hard at this time -- very hard.

And when the dust is completely settled, My people will stand.

Americans brace for retaliation after missile strikes

The cruise missile strikes against targets in Afghanistan and Sudan signaled what U.S. President Clinton said would be a lengthy war on terrorists who bombed the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania and were planning still more attacks.

The CIA told senior Clinton administration officials that the prospect of retaliation against Americans overseas was "very, very high." One senior intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "People ought to understand that this is not a one-shot deal. There is a high probability of retaliation."

Rise up, rise up, rescue souls

On Thursday, August 6, 1998, ABC World News reports:

"Floods and droughts are more and more frequent... The climates are becoming more and more abnormal. The earth is more and more restless... The end is near. The revelation of love has been manifested. Rise up, rise up, rescue souls. The end is near."
