THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES (To be said on Thursdays)

THE FIRST LUMINOUS MYSTERY: The Baptism in the Jordan

We ask for the Grace of Hope in the Lord, that we will desire, and with steadfast trust, await from God, eternal life.

1) "I am baptizing you with water, for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I." (Matthew 3:11)
2) "I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals." (Luke 3:16)
3) "He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." (Matthew 3:11)
4) "His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire." (Luke 3:17)
5) "Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him." (Matthew 3:13)
6) "John tried to prevent him, saying, 'I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?' " (Matthew 3:14)
7) "Jesus said to him in reply, 'Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.' " (Matthew 3:15)
8) "After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens opened [for him], and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove [and] coming upon him." (Matthew 3:16)
9) "And a voice came from the heavens, saying, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:17)
10) "Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God." (John 1:34)

THE SECOND LUMINOUS MYSTERY: The Self-Manifestation of at the Wedding of Cana

We ask for the Grace of Wisdom, that we may judge properly as to what is true or right.

1) "On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding." (John 2:1-2)
2) "When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, 'They have no wine.' " (John 2:3)
3) "[And] Jesus said to her, 'Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come." (John 2:4)
4) "His mother said to the servers, 'Do whatever he tells you.' " (John 2:5)
5) "Now there were six stone jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons." (John 2:6)
6) "Jesus told them, 'Fill the jars with water.' So they filled them to the brim." (John 2:7)
7) "Then he told them, 'Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.' So they took it." (John 2:8)
8) "And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom" (John 2:9)
9) "and said to him, 'Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.' " (John 2:10)
10) "Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him." (John 2:11)

THE THIRD LUMINOUS MYSTERY: The Proclamation of the Kingdom

We ask for the Grace of Understanding and to walk in the Light of Christ

1) "He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it is written: 'The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.' " (Luke 4:16-18)
2) "He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord." (Luke 4:18-19)
3) "This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent, and believe in the gospel." (Mark 1:15)
4) "Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. What is born of flesh is flesh and what is born of spirit is spirit." (John 3:5)
5) "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life." (John 3:16)
6) "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him." (John 4:36)
7) "Now someone approached him and said, 'Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?' He answered him, 'Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." (Matthew 19:16-17)
8) "And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life." (Matthew 19:29)
9) "Jesus said to him, 'What is written in the law? How do you read it?' He said in reply, 'You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.' He replied to him, 'You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.' " (Luke 10:25)
10) "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all his angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.' " (Matthew 26:31, 33-34)

THE FOURTH LUMINOUS MYSTERY: The Transfiguration

We ask for the Grace of Fear of the Lord, that we will always be reverent.

1) "After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves." (Mark 9:2)
2) "And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them." (Mark 9:2-3)
3) "Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses, and they were conversing with Jesus." (Mark 9:4)
4) "Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, "Rabbi, it is good that we are here! Let us make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." (Mark 9:5)
5) "While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud." (Luke 9:34)
6) "then from the cloud came a voice that said, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.' " (Matthew 17:5)
7) "When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid." (Matthew 17:6)
8) "But Jesus came and touched them, saying, 'Rise, and do not be afraid.' " (Matthew 17:7)
9) "And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone." (Matthew 17:8)
10) "As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, 'Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.' " (Matthew 17:9)

THE FIFTH LUMINOUS MYSTERY: The Institution of the Eucharist

We ask for the Grace of Fortitude, which ensures firmness in difficulties and constancy in the pursuit of good.

1) "Jesus said to them, 'Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.' " (John 6:32-33)
2) "So they said to him, 'Sir, give us this bread always.' Jesus said to them "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst." (John 6:34-35)
3) "Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die." (John 6:47-50)
4) "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." (John 6:51)
5) "The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, 'How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?' " (John 6:52)
6) "Jesus said to them, 'Amen, amen I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.' " (John 6:53)
7) "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink." (John 6:54-55)
8) "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me." (John 6:56-57)
9) "This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever." (John 6:58)
10) "Then many of his disciples who were listening said, 'This saying is hard; who can accept it?' As a result of this, many [of] his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. Jesus then said to the Twelve, 'Do you also want to leave?' Simon Peter answered him, 'Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words to eternal life.' " (John 6:60, 66-68)
